‘Portelo’ beach

Portelo is the small, hidden gate on the southern side of the Castle walls. Once a supply port for the fortress, it is now the only spot where you can dive into the crystal waters of the Myrtoan Sea without leaving the Castle.

It is the definition of an atmospheric experience, offering a sense that time has stood still.

The Experience Plan (Day by Day):

Day 1: The Emperor’s Dive. Start your day with a swim at Portelo before the alleys get crowded. Enjoy the coolness of the Myrtoan Sea under the morning sun.

Day 2: Wall Snorkeling. Bring your mask and explore the seabed right beneath the fortifications, where the stone meets the sea.

Day 3: Twilight on the Rock. After your swim, stay to watch the sky's colors change over the sea before heading back up to the Cannon Square.

Hero Tip : Choose Portelo when northern winds blow. The Rock acts as a shield, keeping the water calm. During strong southern winds, waves crash against the rocks, making swimming challenging.
