Kinsterna Hotel

Regal Hospitality

The Kinsterna is a Byzantine mansion that has been painstakingly restored with tremendous respect to its long history with the intent to create a comprehensive settlement encompassing the main mansion and the surrounding houses.

With stunning view over the rock of the castle city of Monemvasia,  the endless blue of the Aegean Sea and its own vineyards, the Kinsterna blends magically into the timeless olive and orange groves, the imposing eucalyptus trees, the stately cypresses and the gardens with plants and herbs that can be found on the estate, all irrigated by the Byzantine cistern, located in the centre of the building.

The Kinsterna Hotel breathes a new dimension in the concept of luxury.

From the enchanting nights with a glass of wine from the local privately owned vineyards next to the Byzantine cistern, to the incredible culinary creations from the Greek and the Mediterranean cuisine, with delectable local products and ingredients cultivated in the estate, in the Kinsterna Restaurant, and from the traditional hearty Greek breakfas t to the impressive river-like pool with private relaxation areas amidst the fragrant orange trees, and the atmospheric Kinsterna Spa, with the signature treatments and the highly qualified therapists, the Kinsterna Hotel fully justifies why it was included in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List as one of the 65 best new hotels in the world!

Rooms & Suites

The unique rooms and atmospheric suites in the historic mansion have been masterfully restored and stylishly designed and combine traditional details with modern aesthetic features, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Each room or suite is different and most of them have interesting morphological elements, such as Byzantine domes, preserved fireplaces and various characteristics which testify to the different cultures that shaped the mansion.

The residences include both apartments and rooms and give guests greater privacy. They are larger and offer a number of comforts, such as a fully-equipped bar, separate dressing room, comfortable baths, impressive verandas with a view over the Aegean Sea or private gardens with flower beds and fresh vegetables! On the outside one will find the traditional colours encountered in Monemvasia (Byzantine ochre, umber and sienna), while the interior style is more modern and perfectly combines the style of the historic building and the charming nature of the wider region.

The Kinsterna's two wonderful villas, with their semi-private swimming pools and independent character, combine modern comforts with traditional local architecture. Each villa has two separate floors and is surrounded by the serene atmosphere of the mansion gardens, next to a stream of sweet water, with a wonderful view over the Aegean Sea.

The menu at the all-day "mouries" restaurant is dominated by authentic dishes and homemade flavours, while in the charming "sterna" gourmet restaurant next to the Byzantine cistern traditional Greek cuisine is served with a modern twist.

During the summer months the "linos" taverna is also open, in the open-air space next to the old olive mill, the grape stomping vat and the stone wood-fuelled oven and is perhaps the most authentic place for a genuine local meal.

From the gardens of our mansion we bring fresh seasonal produce to the plates of our guests, such as vegetables, fruits and aromatic herbs. From our fertile estate, we offer you table olives, extra virgin olive oil from the local "Athenolia" variety, our select wines and tsipouro, thus also promoting a policy of sustainability and organic farming.

Our partnership with small, local producers ensures we use fresh ingredients, at the same time showcasing the special flavours of Laconia.

Relaxation & Wellness

The Kinsterna Spa, located in the heart of the mansion, acquires its mystical energy from the eternal water spring. Its unique layout and exceptional design create a stimulating space which, as it unfolds, leads guests from the initial darkness of the reception area towards the sunlight which bathes the central area with its purifying Ottoman hammam, temperature controlled whirlpool and Razul & Water Paradise cabins, resulting in its exterior featuring the perfectly-lighted Jacuzzi offering view of the Medieval castle's rock of Monemvasia.

The rejuvenating care you receive at the hands of its expert healers and the original signature treatments with products from the estate, all fit seamlessly to create a unique experience!

On its estate, the Kinsterna has revived all the old activities and offers its own private label products. Visitors can take part in the grape harvest and the grape stomping in the traditional vat, as well as in making tsipouro, producing olive oil in the old stone mill, and making handmade soap with aromatic herbs from its gardens.

It also organises a variety of other activities, specially designed for all those who wish to discover the region and the history of the mansion further, such as: a tour of the mansion, hiking through the vineyards and the local trails (E33) of the surrounding area, cycling, horse-riding and a trip in an old carriage, adopting an olive tree, sampling wines and olive oils, baking bread, cooking classes, introduction to the art of weaving in the mansion's loom room, and a visit to our antique shop.
