The unique atmosphere of the Castle-City makes Monemvasia  a particularly beloved destination every season of the year. Dozens of picturesque little churches as well as Byzantine churches provide a special “atmosphere” creating a sense of peace and calm. It is no accident that a lot of young couples choose to have their wedding in this amazing place.

At the edge of Kato Poli in Monemvasia, at the centre of the large square, is the small, all white church of Panagia Chrysafitissa, patron saint of the city.

At the higher districts of Lower City of Monemvasia, at one of the uphill cobbled streets that head towards Upper City, dominates he impressive, tall façade of the church of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, also known as Panagia Kritikia (from Crete) because it located at the district where refugees from Crete has settled in the 17th century.

At the area of the square, at Kato Poli of Monemvasia, is the large and impressive church of Elkomenos Christos, which is considered the oldest on the rock.

At the cemetery of the small picturesque settlement of Pantanassa, approcimately in the middle of the route from Molaoi to Neapolis,is one of the most important and well-preserved Byzantine monuments of the area, the church of Agios Athanasios, known also as Pantanassa of Monemvasia or Geroumanas, from the older name of the nearby village of Kriovrisi.
