A building with a great History!
Amario Suites Hotel is housed in an iconic building of high historical value. The history of the building dates back to 1933, when the first foundations were laid. This special building was designed and built by Italian architects.
Initially, it was used as a raisin processing factory, as the area is famous for its production, but it was later abandoned. Then, in the year 1983 it was bought by the Anastasiou family and used in various commercial processes.
Finally, in 2005 the building was declared a listed building and in 2022 the idea of creating the Amario Suites Hotel was born. The founders were inspired by this particular history of the building, creating this special hotel unit.
Amario or "God of Olympus"
Amario Suites Hotel owes its name to a nickname of Zeus. According to mythology, the first inhabitants of Aigio are said to have been the Aegiales Pelasgians, but the founders of the single city are said to have been the Ionians.
In the middle of the 16th century the Ionians came fram Attica, occupied the fertile Aegialia and very early on they mixed peacefully and united with the Aegiales Pelasgians.
Over time, the Ionians legitimized the center of their suzerainty in the Peloponnese, in ancient Aigio. In ancient Aigio, the sanctuary of Zeus, who was called "Amarios" or "Omarios" or more correctly Omagirios (from omegiri = gathering), was in great prosperity.
The temple of Zeus in Aigio acquired a great reputation as a place where Greeks gathered to solve common problems. Thus, the tradition was created that Agamemnon held the meeting of the leaders of the Achaeans there, to discuss and make decisions regarding the Trojan Campaign. This, in fact, is believed to have been the reason for giving the sanctuary the nickname of Omagirios Zeus.
